The worst outbreak of anthrax in Bangladesh’s history has occurred during the Islamic festival of Eid, which is usually the busiest time of year for cattle traders.

Cattle traders at Gabtali cattle market, one of Dhaka’s largest, reported that sales have declined by 90 percent.

Although no human deaths have been reported amongst the 400 confirmed cases, the general population has naturally shied away from purchasing beef.
